Meet Our New Teachers!

We are so excited to welcome many new amazing staff members to Cherry Tree this fall!  Below you will find a bio written by the teacher.  We hope this helps you get to know these great CTE Patriots!

Adrienne Chyba – First Grade

fam pic for blogMy name is Adrienne Chyba (pronounced ‘shy’ ‘buh’) and I am so thrilled to be starting my 1st year teaching at Cherry Tree!  After teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades at Towne Meadow over the past 9 years, I am very excited to have another year in first grade! Prior to teaching in Carmel, I taught kindergarten for 3 years in North Carolina, where I  was born and raised.  I graduated from Appalachian State (Boone, NC) in 2004 with a degree in elementary education, and from Indiana University with a masters in educational leadership in May of 2010.
I have been married for eight years to my fabulous husband, Mark. We have a rock star of a four year old, Ace, and darling one and half year old baby girl- Annie.

Britney Smith – Kindergarten

2016-08-12 15.22.04I grew up in Frankfort, Indiana. Frankfort is known as the ‘Home of the Hotdogs’ because of our infamous mascot. After graduating from Frankfort High School in 2008, I attended Ball State University and became a Cardinal. After studying for 4 years, I graduated with my teaching degree. Then I got married to my husband, Jeff Smith. I started teaching kindergarten at Eastern Elementary in Greentown, Indiana, where I became a Comet. My husband and I moved to Noblesville in 2013. Then in 2016, we welcomed a baby girl into our family named Evelyn. We are now a family of 4 including our cat, Sammy! I am excited to begin my 5th year in kindergarten at Cherry Tree Elementary and become a Patriot!

Kristen Parkevich – Kindergarten

ParkevichIrvington, a fun and thriving historic district on the Eastside, was where I was born and where my roots were planted. As a child, our family moved to Burlington, IN where my father pastored a small church. I was blessed to experience both a rural upbringing and keep my urban roots planted when we would return to Irvington every weekend and in the summers.

Upon graduation from IUPUI I was quite excited to enter the classroom. I began teaching fifth grade in Perry Township on Indianapolis’ south side. At Glenns Valley Elementary I was fortunate to experience intermediate and primary grade levels where I taught over the course of eight years. During that time my husband, Nick, and I welcomed the birth of our daughter, Gwenyth, and two years later our son, Grant.

I was so very blessed to have the opportunity to move to Carmel and focus on raising Gwen and Grant. They attended Meridian Hills Cooperative Nursery school early on and both attended pre-k at Orchard Park Learning Center. As my son, Grant, was ready to head off to kindergarten I too was eager to return to the classroom. Both of our children now attend Cherry Tree as Patriots in kindergarten and third grade this year. They are loving it already!

When I am not at Cherry Tree growing young minds and leaders I love to spend time with my family in the outdoors, go for a run with my Aussies, River and Ben, and spend time with any of my three brothers who are my best friends. Thank you for welcoming me as a Cherry Tree Patriot. My family and I are honored to be here and to be part of this community!

Kelli Grogg – School Psychologist (CTE and Clay Middle)
I worked for Indianapolis Public Schools for 3 years before joining the psych team with Carmel Clay.  While in IPS, I was a member of the district Crisis response team, and split my time between two elementary schools: Cold Spring Environmental Magnet & Clarence Farrington Elementary School #61.  I also occasionally assisted the early childhood evaluation team.
Before getting my Ed. S. in School Psychology from Indiana State, I worked as a Care Coordinator for Midtown Community Mental Health Center’s school based program (also in IPS).
I received my B.S. In psychology from Manchester College (now Manchester University) in 2008.  Not soon after graduating I got married to John Grogg.  We have a 2 year-old daughter named Olive and we live in Fishers.
